1. The plain statement

Every image Colorune produces is generated by an artificial-intelligence image model. None of it is drawn by a human illustrator. This is true of the pages you generate, and it is true of every sample page shown across this website.

We are not shy about it. It is the whole point of the product — you get a page of your own dog rather than a page out of a book — but it means you should always know what you are looking at.

2. Where you will see it said

• On the result screen in the generator, before you download anything.
• Under the sample gallery on this site.
• In the footer of every page.
• Inside the metadata of every file you download.

3. What is embedded in the file

Each downloaded PNG carries machine-readable provenance written into its text chunks, and each PDF carries the equivalent in its document metadata. Three things are recorded:

• A C2PA-shaped assertion block under the key c2pa.assertions, declaring a c2pa.created action with the IPTC digital source type trainedAlgorithmicMedia — the standard vocabulary term for media produced by a trained algorithmic model — followed by a c2pa.edited action describing the print processing we apply.
• An XMP packet carrying Iptc4xmpExt:DigitalSourceType set to the same IPTC term, plus a human-readable description, so that ordinary image tools surface the disclosure too.
• Plain Description and Software text, so that even a basic viewer shows a sentence saying the image was AI-generated.

No part of this identifies you. There is no account ID, no email address and no device information in the metadata — only the fact that the image is AI-generated, when, in which style, and that it came from Colorune.

Checking it yourself

You can read the marker with any tool that lists PNG text chunks — for example exiftool your-page.png, which will show the description and the digital source type. You do not have to take our word for it.

4. Why we do this

Article 50 of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act requires providers of systems that generate synthetic image content to mark their output in a machine-readable format that is detectable as artificially generated. Those transparency obligations have applied since 2 August 2026, and a service launched after that date does not get a transition period. Colorune was built to meet the requirement from day one.

Beyond the legal obligation, it is simply the right default. Marked output is easier for platforms, search engines and other people to handle honestly.

5. Removing the marker

The visible watermark on Free plan pages is removed by upgrading to any paid plan — that is what the paid plans are for.

The machine-readable AI-generation marker is different. It stays on every file, on every plan. Deliberately stripping or altering it in order to pass a page off as human-made breaches the acceptable use policy.

6. What the AI does and does not do

• The model draws the picture. Line weight, composition and detail come from the image model and vary between attempts. The same prompt twice will not give you the same page twice.
• Our code does the printing work. Thresholding to pure black on white, widening hairline strokes, and laying the page out on A4 or US Letter are all done deterministically in software.
• Our code sets any text. Titles are typeset in a real font after the drawing is finished. The image model is never asked to draw lettering, because image models cannot reliably spell.
• Your uploads are not training data. Nothing you give us is used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model. See the privacy policy.

7. Limits you should expect

AI image models make mistakes. A page may have an extra paw, a wobbly perspective, or a detail that does not quite make sense. Check a page before you print a class set of it, and certainly before you publish one for sale. If a page comes out badly, we will regenerate it and restore your allowance — just email us.
